Iba - Protect, Enhance and Save Lives - Irradiation configuration Exemples - IBA X-Ray Pallet Irradiation System

IBA X-ray Pallet Irradiation System | more infos

The innovative IBA X-ray Pallet Irradiation System is designed for treating low density products, like disposable medical devices, loaded on industrial pallets."

Flextron Advantages |

  1. Full pallet processing:
X-Rays penetrate products without damaging their packaging, products can therefore be processed in their original packaging on pallets.
  2. Dose uniformity
the Flextron is designed to effectively and evenly spread and distribute the X-Ray dose within the pallet load.
  3. Seamless integration:
with an irradiator footprint as small as 200 m2, the Flextron is extremely space efficient. It can be implemented almost anywhere: in warehouses, distribution centers, processing facilities and points-of-entry for imported agricultural products.
  4. High Turn around of batches:
since each pallet lot is irradiated independently of the next, there are no delays for sorting products by dose requirements or for inserting blank pallets between batches.

Picture of dose distribution:  This is for the Palletron – not the other TRON.

Operating Highlights |

  • A Rhodotron electron accelerator is used to produce a high-energy electron beam.
  • The electron beam is applied to an X-Ray target made of tantalum.
  • High-energy X-Rays are produced by Bremsstrahlung and are emitted in all directions from the target.
  • The product rotates on a turntable in the path of the beam
  • The electron accelerator and the turntable are connected to the control system so that the beam intensity and irradiation time can be determined and adjusted either before or during product irradiation.

Practically, the X-Ray irradiation starts after entering of the (4 or 8) pallets and closing of the doors.

Any Rhodotron of the IBA range can be used as electron source. Would maximum output be required, two irradiating cell can be installed on one high power Rhodotron.
The Flextron is typically used for applications such as medical device sterilization

Iba - Protect, Enhance and Save Lives - Irradiation configuration Exemples - Easy-E-Beam

Easy-E-beam | more infos

Meet your crosslinking needs with a new generation of shelf shielded electron beam processing equipment.

To crosslink higher quality products and meet today’s higher performance standards, RDI is proud to offer Easy-ē-Beam – the latest generation of electron beam crosslinking systems.

The Easy-ē-Beam is:

  1. Low Cost
  2. Compact
  3. Self Contained

The Easy-ē-Beam is ideal for, but not limited to, the electron beam crosslinking of:

  1. Automotive Wire (Ultra Thin Wall & Thin Wall)
  2. Medical Tubing (Balloon Catheter)
  3. Heat Shrink Tubing (Thin Wall)
  4. Specialty Wire (PTC)
  5. Appliance Wire (HPN)
  6. Coaxial Cable

Installation |

Installation is quick and easy. As the Easy-ē-Beam is self-contained, the shielding and under-beam product handling system are included. It has been designed to operate with either one or two independent wire lines.

Each line can operate up to 1,000 m/min (3000 FPM). Payoff and takes-up systems are also available.

Process Capabilities |

  1. High throughputs
  2. No scrap on start up
  3. No insulation deformation
  4. Minimize stretch

Ultra Thin Wall Wire |

This processing ability makes it possible to cost effectively crosslink some of the most demanding products like the new Ultra Thin Wall Wire.

The Easy-ē-Beam is designed for high-speed crosslinking of wires sizes from 26 to 14 AWG (0.22 to 2.0 mm²) with insulation wall thickness as small as 6 to 16 mils (0.15 to 0.40 mm). Because the product is supported during crosslinking, tension in the product is minimal. Product stretch and insulation shrink-back are virtually eliminated. One person can easily operate the system.

Means Crosslinking Cost Reduction |

The cost savings benefits of the Easy-ē-Beam are significant. For example, the processing costs of electron beam and continuous vulcanization systems were compared. When producing 125 degree C # 18 TXL Primary Cable, per SAE J1560, the analysis showed that the savings are $.15 to $.33 per thousand meters of wire.

Means Return On Investment |

This new Generation of Electron Beam Systems provides significant cost savings. Very often, simple, low cost resins can be used in place of more complex resins with limited shelf life. This, coupled with the high throughput of the Easy-ē-Beam makes it possible to save 5 to 7 $ per thousand meters of wire. Multiply this savings by your annual output to realize the significance. At this rate the Easy-ē-Beam pays for itself quickly.
